  • Cristal by Marcel Wanders for Normann Copenhagen: The carafe is glass and the cups are a soft, colorful plastic. We like Wanders, but this is a strange mixed use of materials.

Note to self: buy stock in wallpaper stripping solvent companies in '07.

And in the meantime, stock up on pain relievers for the inevitable pattern-induced headache.

(Although that one square the lady is holding would look pretty cool on its own.)

I just imaging a room covered in this intense patterned paper with a sweller also infatuated with similar clothing and basically disappearing into the surroundings. Reminds me too much of my mom's penchant for intense wallpaper in 70's which resulted in my bedroom feeling much scarier with the lights on than off..... shuddering at the memory and the horror of that damned pattern....

PS - I'm not anti pattern - I just can't imagine a whole roomful. I'd be up for papering a floor screen maybe.

I like Wanders too, but agree this is an odd display of his talent (mostly, as mentioned, due to the odd colro choices). It reminds me of Summer car trips when we each had a plastic cup for drinking from the water Thermos in the car. My first intro to color-coding, perhaps.
