apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

When Perfect is Not the Goal
From Ohdeedoh: Our site that covers modern homelife with children

NY-imperfection-NYT-1.jpgThis week at Ohdeedoh, we blogged an article in The New York Times that featured the home of Pamela Bell, who enlisted her children to help design their home, having them do everything from picking the paint colors to decorating a John Derian sofa with fabric markers.

We've rounded up some other hot posts from Ohdeedoh below the jump, including a cool treehouse-style bed, the search for the perfect mop, a visit to the Unica Home website, and a tour of a nursery that relies almost solely on heirloom and thrift scores.

NY-amoore3.jpgWe love designer (and mom) Amanda Moore and her amazing custom wall treatments. Moore takes wall design to a new level at first:place, an offshoot of her interior design firm re:place.

dollhouse.jpgWe toured Makena's room, which is a testament to the fact that vintage doesn't just look sweet in kids' rooms, it's also highly functional.

NY-UNICAHOME.jpgOn our first visit to the Unica Home web site, we were so into our browser window shopping, we hadn't noticed that 40 minutes had passed. Enter at your own risk!

NY-FUNDY.jpgA hat tip to Ohdeedoh reader Emmanuel, who spotted some nifty recent changes to Argington's Fundy table.

NY-treehousebed.jpgSure, it's crazy expensive and you'd constantly be reminding your kids that they're not Tarzan and therefore are not to swing from the top of it, but we still have big leafy love for the Lit Cabane from Anders Paris.

NY-mysticmaid.jpgOn a more practical note, we're on the search for the perfect daily microfiber mop for our hardwood floors. Right now we're eyeing this mop from MysticMaid. Any tips?

That shot of the sofa and chair just makes me cringe.

Ditto on the couch and chair! I've already put up with magic marker , paint, playdough and grape juice accidently getting on my furniture from a kid and grandkids. I sure as heck wouldn't want it there on pupose.

Most children are punished for drawing on the sofa - and rightly so...

Ha, when i saw the colored furniture pop up agian i kinda groaned. Glad to see i'm not the only grinch that thinks this idea was indulgent and kinda dumb.

That said, purpose built fun furniture is cool. Love the "tree-bunk"

i hope they don't go to their friends' houses and do the same thing. This mama would have a smack down.

if this idea appeals to anyone, why not get a cheap fitted slipcover and let them have at it? Oy.

Loosen up, folks. It may not be chic to many of us, but I'd rather see a family have a little fun together and get goofy w/the furniture than see vinyl covers on the furniture (as many of us 30 grew up with)!

I love that hand-drawn couch. I want to do it myself!

It was probably a mistake to include the sofa and chair (again) as it is going to distract from every other picture in this post and comments will be exclusively about it.

I will say that using multiple paper lanterns in the pink room is a super idea. It looks good and is a very cheap option. Those lanterns are about a dollar apiece (at least in Japan - they're sold in 99 yen shops) and add an ethereal quality to the room that balances the pink walls and furniture choices.
