I’m Never Buying Another Lightweight Blanket — This One Is the Best
When I moved into my first apartment, I purchased a fluffy comforter and sheet set to fit my new full-size bed. But when summer rolled around, I needed something more lightweight but didn’t want to buy yet another blanket, so I just stole the old stripy summer blanket from my childhood bed. (Sorry, Mom.) I proceeded to use it in my apartment for 10 summers in a row, despite it clashing with my sheets and being way too small to cover my double mattress. Last April, I finally decided to invest in a blanket upgrade, and after scouring the internet, I found the Cotton Weave Blanket from The Company Store. I ended up loving it so much, I wound up using it all year round.
What Is The Company Store’s Cotton Weave Blanket?
The Company Store’s Cotton Weave Blanket is made of 100% ring-spun cotton and is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. (OEKO-TEX is an independent association that certifies textiles and leathers do not have harmful substances). The blanket seems thin at first, but since it’s composed of a textured, tightly weaved cotton fabric, it’s much warmer than it looks while still being breathable. It weighs 420 grams per square meter (GSM), which is a pretty high-quality weight for a blanket.
The Cotton Weave Blanket comes in around 15 colors, and I opted for Mineral Gray. It perfectly matches my fitted sheet and flat sheet, also from The Company Store, which are white with a gray plaid pattern. I opted for the full–size blanket, but it also comes in twin/twin XL, full/queen, and king/California king sizes. There’s also a smaller version called the Cotton Weave Throw ($64) if you would just want something to have on the couch.
Why I Love The Company Store’s Cotton Weave Blanket
When I was first shopping online for a new summer blanket, there were a few factors that were nonnegotiable for me: It had to be made of environmentally friendly and safe materials, reasonably priced, and breathable for summer. A lot of blankets are made of polyester or other synthetics, which are essentially just plastic and shed microplastics every time they are washed. I set out to find a blanket that’s made of 100% cotton that’s free of pesticides, so it had to be organic or made of OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified fabric. Additionally, I was working with a budget of $100 or less and needed to find a blanket that would be ideal for the hot summer nights ahead.
I lucked out when I came across the Cotton Weave Blanket a year ago, as it fit all my requirements. At the time, it was on sale for $69.65. The 100% cotton content makes it breathable enough for a hot summer night — but at the same time, the blanket manages to provide just the right amount of weight and warmth on a cooler night as a layer under or over my comforter. And it’s OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified.
What surprised me the most about this blanket was that I didn’t want to put it away when cooler weather arrived. After setting my comforter up on my bed last fall, I decided to use my Cotton Weave Blanket as a coverlet on top of my comforter, and I wound up keeping it that way all winter long.
Plus, the Cotton Weave Blanket is thin enough to fit in my small washing machine, unlike my comforter (which, admittedly, I typically don’t wash it all winter — just at the end of the season, before I store it away). So sandwiching my comforter between a flat sheet and the Cotton Weave Blanket helped keep my comforter clean this past winter. And now that winter is (finally!) over, I’m excited to be sleeping with just a flat sheet and my Cotton Weave Blanket again.
