Trevor and Bonnie’s home is a colorful oasis filled with collected treasures from various antique malls, thrift stores and family members. The two roommates (and friends) have meshed their own personal styles into a one-of-a-kind space for themselves and their charming pets, and they managed to get it looking great in record time. The house was decorated within weeks of moving in; Bonnie reports they had a plan for the larger items and the smaller pieces just fell into place. They chose their house because of certain elements like the large window in the living room, the awesome back porch and the stunning pink tiled bathroom. They certainly hit the jackpot with this house — it even came with an antique piano!

The shared living spaces are filled with distinctive pieces from both Bonnie and Trevor. Their styles complement each other and their mutual love of color and texture is apparent throughout the home. It’s easy to see that they respect and listen to each other’s design ideas and work in tandem to create delightful spaces.

Their bedrooms are both spaces that allow their individual styles to shine through. Trevor’s room is filled with colorful patterns and strong mid-century pieces. Bonnie’s room is filled with family heirlooms and fun collected trinkets from traveling and thrifting. Their home is a well-curated space filled with uncommon treasures, rare pieces of furniture and tons of character.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Collected/Treasure Hunt

Inspiration: Our design styles are heavily influenced by members of our family — whether that is taking a cue from their style, or physically taking our favorite things from their homes. Instagram is such a huge trove of design and visual inspiration for us too — a few of our favorites include: @cocollected, @emhenderson, @magicbabyvintage, @ohjoy, @pierceandward, @trot_home, @continuumbazaar, @kindahkhalidy

Favorite Element: Trevor: I really appreciate the large picture window on the front of the house. It allows all of that lovely, life-affirming morning sunlight into our home. I think our plants (which might be my all-time favorite design element in any home) really appreciate the window, too!

Bonnie: Right now, especially with the weather we are having in Nashville, I am so into the back porch. It’s so nice to have an evening meal or a midday break out there. The herbs and flowers make the porch so fragrant and comforting; I really enjoy hanging out with the pets and plants.

Biggest Challenge: A) Being renters, the inability to freely (and boldly) paint the home the color(s) we would prefer. B) We are (kind of) babysitting the large antique piano in the sitting room. It’s a permanent fixture in the house. As beautiful as it is, it must remain in that spot, which limits the layout of the room. It is also super traditional which isn’t our typical design aesthetic.

What Friends Say: #1- “Where did you get/find this??” #2 a direct quote from a friend: “This is just the kind of place you don’t want to leave.” #3 Trevor’s mom always says “you have a lot of stuff”

Biggest Embarrassment: Pet hair, but that is so understandable considering we have a long-haired cat and a wire-haired pup.

Biggest Indulgence: The Art Deco revival/1960s style mirrored table in our dining room. It’s not only the most decadent piece in our home, it was also one of the more expensive items. We call it the “coke table.” It’s totally a piece on which we imagine a drug lord doing lines. We also purchase art from various places and some of our close friends — and it all adds up.

Best Advice: Buy what you love — You can always make it work. For us, it’s never a matter of where we purchased the items, just the reaction we had internally. We often find ourselves more excited about the items we thrifted than anything we purchase from a shop or online. We both know that if we love it enough to purchase it, it’s going to work somewhere in our house.
