4 of IKEA’s Best-Selling Products of 2024 (They’re So Hackable!)
When looking for functional pieces for the home, there’s one dependable place to turn: IKEA. Shopping at the Swedish small-space superstore, whether online or in person, offers various ideas for organizing and decorating your spaces (whether you want to use them as-is or hack them to create your dream furniture). But while the total product offerings number in the thousands, there are some that stand out as the heaviest hitters.
Recently, Apartment Therapy asked IKEA to share their top-selling collections of 2024. If you want to bring home IKEA favorites that (rightfully) win all the popularity contests so you can create the organized, stylish home of your dreams in 2025, you’re in luck. Here are four of IKEA’s top tried-and-true best-selling pieces from 2024, and what makes these picks so darn great.
KALLAX Shelf Unit
If one of your 2025 goals is to organize your entryway, corral children’s toys, or make a functional home office, the KALLAX shelving unit is the solution for you. Available in four finishes, these shelves have a slim depth — just 15 3/8 inches — that’s perfect for tucking behind a desk or in a mudroom. Each shelf also holds up to 29 pounds of weight, meaning you can finally create the reading nook of your dreams without worrying about overloading the shelves.
The beauty of the KALLAX is that it’s so endlessly customizable. Not only does it fit in a range of different spaces, but it’s also a favorite among IKEA hackers thanks to its versatility. (To get inspired, check out these 19 brilliant KALLAX hacks.)
For those in small spaces who need something even slimmer than the KALLAX, DIY decorator Christin Cieslarski recommends the BILLY bookshelf (another perennial favorite), which is only 11 inches deep. “I recommend these for clients who want the built-in look but don’t want to pay the carpenter built-in price,” she says.
TARVA Bed Frame
The TARVA bed frame looks humble, but this bed is actually winning all the popularity contests as one of IKEA’s bestsellers of the year. The simple Scandinavian style helps it fit with a range of decor tastes, from cottagey to vintage-inspired to minimalist modern, and like the KALLAX, its major advantage is its hackability.
While there are two options in finishes, the untreated pine is the way to go if you want to customize this bed to your own tastes. Without any coating to worry about, the wood can be stained to your liking and can easily be painted, too. Or, choose a different material entirely — I love the fabric-wrapped TARVA bed frame in this house tour.
HEMNES Daybed Frame with Drawers
Furniture that does multiple jobs is a must if you live in a small space, so it’s no wonder one of the top sellers of the year was the HEMNES daybed frame with drawers, which serves as a couch, bed, and storage all in one.
This daybed also has the seal of approval of DIY blogger Kim Bui, as she says it’s one of the most functional pieces she owns. “It is a great piece of furniture if you’re looking to maximize your space,” Bui adds. One plus is that it’s available in three neutral colors, plus a gorgeous poppy yellow finish that’s surprisingly versatile.
TRONES Shoe/Storage Cabinet
Whether you enter your home via the front door, garage, or mudroom, there’s one thing you’re probably dealing with: an unsightly pile of shoes. Fortunately, the TRONES offers a creative storage solution that can wrangle all sizes of shoes. They come in a two-pack, which is ideal for stacking, and you can use the top to house your keys or set your coffee down while you slip on your sneakers.
Want to change up the look a little? Great news! This cabinet is also a favorite among DIYers, who have discovered tons of ideas for hacking TRONES cabinets to make them feel a little more custom.
