I'm originally from a small beach town in West Michigan, but I moved to NYC for college where I got my BS in Fashion Media from LIM College. Brooklyn is now my permanent home, where I love exploring celiac-friendly cafes or bakeries, and I’m constantly reading and bringing my…read more

I grew up in Michigan with two engineer parents, so I learned the signature Midwestern phrase that “everything is figureoutable” early on. If you’re not familiar with the saying, it applies to basically everything — especially home projects. I still live by that phrase and have my own collection of tools to “figure out” problems around my apartment — but I don’t have a smart way to organize everything.

Originally I kept everything, from paints and stains to hand tools and my drill, in a tiered metal cart I had to dig through to find what I needed. But once I got the Kobalt Mini 3-Drawer Lavender Steel Tool Box, that all changed. I now know exactly where my go-to tools are and no longer need to go through the cart to find something simple like a tape measure.

What Is the Kobalt Mini Tool Box?

You might have seen the Kobalt Mini Tool Box trending on TikTok, as people have become obsessed with using it as more than just a tool box (from beauty and hygiene products to office supply storage). If you haven’t seen it on social media, it’s sold exclusively by Lowe’s, and it’s one of those unexpectedly useful pieces you didn’t know you needed. At 11 inches long and 7 inches tall, it’s a small but mighty tool box with a slip-resistant mat and either two or three drawers to maximize your storage.

What really sold me is that you can use the tool box by itself or stack it with Kobalt’s mini cabinet. So when you expand your tool collection and one tool box is no longer enough, you don’t have to buy a whole new organizational system. Instead, you can simply add and stack the Kobalt storage to fit any space. Plus it can fit every personality and style, thanks to the 12 powder-coat finish options.

Why I Love the Kobalt Mini Tool Box

My Kobalt Mini Tool box sits in front of the metal tiered cart, making it easy to grab what I need. I keep my tape measure, level, screwdriver, drill bits, finishing nails, extra drill battery, and so much more in the tool box. It weighs about five pounds, so I can easily carry the entire tool box around my apartment for an all-day project.

But I especially love how compact it is, which is perfect for my New York City apartment where I already have limited storage space. It’s truly a small but mighty tool storage solution that offers endless customizations with color, drawer count, and stackability.
