I Put a Teakettle in My Bathroom, and It’s the Cutest Storage Trick I’ve Tried

I recently set out to add a little charm to my otherwise plain bathroom with some light, easy updates. I’m always up for repurposing what I already have (like using a cheese grater as quirky wall storage), and I love the look of vintage decor. That’s why, when I found the most brilliant way to use an old teakettle in the bathroom — turning it into a tissue holder! — I knew I had to try it.

I originally spotted this hack in an Instagram Reel posted by creator Emma Joy, who repurposed an adorable secondhand tomato-shaped teakettle into a delightful (and handy!) tissue holder. After cleaning the pot, all she did was put some tissues inside and pulled one out of the spout. In seconds, she had a lovely accent piece. 

People on social media are singing Emma’s praises in the comment section for this DIY’s creative look and clever functionality, and I totally see why. It’s an eye-catching showpiece that sparks curiosity while easily housing an essential household item. Much like using a spoon rack to store your keys, this ingenious storage hack blends convenience with charm. Fabulous, meet functionality! 

I recently made a goal to do more little things that made me smile, and trying out a tea kettle tissue holder in my bathroom was definitely grin-worthy. I put a cute-but-underutilized blue metal teakettle to work in my bathroom, and I was blown away by how great it looked. 

As someone in the comment section of the original video points out, the tissues look like steam coming out of the spout, which is adorable (and makes me want a nice cup of tea!). Plus, it adds a pop of personality and whimsy to the space instantly. Outside of the bathroom, you can put it on the kitchen counter, or in a bedroom or living room for a playful touch.
