This interior designer got to be her own client for a change.

“We knew we wanted a stone floor instead of linoleum and to replace the upper cabinets with shelving,” the homeowner says.

My kitchen was stuck in the worst version of the '70s, but I gutted, refinished, and rebuilt it with vintage design in mind.

"This kitchen was practically screaming for a makeover," says the designer behind the redo.

I realized I could embrace the wood cabinets and balance out the wood tones.

In Germany, where this renter lives, it’s common for rental units to not come with a kitchen — the renter must build their own!

“The cabinets were the classic orange oak color, and the walls were a dark beige color,” the homeowner describes. “It felt like a nice space, but just very dated.”
